Learning something new every day

My favorite button on my DVR remote is the little REPLAY button. It helps for when I say...am fast forwarding through commercials on super triple pass ludicrous speed, and overshoot. Which I do ALL the TIME. But what about when I encounter the exact opposite problem? I haven't kept my finger on the >> long enough, and so I'm just 5 seconds shy of restarting my program, but really don't want to sit through the end of this Used Catheter ad. Where's the button to just inch forward ever so slightly without overshooting? I'll tell you! That very handy PLAY button is dual purpose, multi functioning! Not only does it play, it unpauses, makes Kraft Mac 'N Cheese AND eeks your programming forward! Try it. It'll change your life.

Yes, we all know*

LittleMissSunshine's new status message - LittleMissSunshine = discount deal hunter! 1:16 PM

me:
wait
re: status
you LittleMissSunshine, or another LittleMissSunshine?
LittleMissSunshine: harro
i'm here!
i'm "chinese", so i must find the best deals out there!
i was just putting it there, cuz after much searching, i found a free shipping code
from this obscure website. i was looking for the LONGEST time for these plastic inserts for my drawers to turn them into filing cabinets
i was ALMOST going to order from a canadian store and pay $15 in shipping (for a $8 order)
me: yeah i remember that conundrum
LittleMissSunshine: and then i found a US based company that i got the shipping for free :)
ugh. so annoying.
so, i hope it works...
i was so proud of myself that i had to change my status :)
so... wait. are you saying that i'm NOT normally a "deal hunter"?
i pride myself on finding discounts and getting things for as cheap as possible... :)
me: oh i didn't realize that
i just thought you liked to shop and travel
LittleMissSunshine: i like to do both... but i like to do it on the cheap :)
although, for travel, i'm willing to splurge a little
:)
me: dude, i totally know you're a discount hound
EVERYONE knows it
i was just playin' witcha
LittleMissSunshine: hehe... oh. hehe. sorry. i'm gullible.

* again, only funny if you know my exsfroomie

I hate LOL.

horsey: lol
me: omg
i saw a comedian this wkd who had a bit that reminded me of you
horsey: what was it?
me: i mean, it's not 100% you
more like 33.33% like you
horsey: lol
me: anyway he was going on about facebook and how everyone's addicted to it
and addicted to hearing that "dink"
and that we'll stop whatever we're doing to run over and check our computers
and then when you get there
it's just some dumbass friend who's like
"what's up"
and then you answer
"nothing"
and then he goes
"LOL"
and then he goes on to say, wtf there is nothing funny about that exchange!!!
horsey: lol
me: thank you for proving my pt
horsey: its more like "roger that" when I got nothing to add
but you can't say "roger that" to a story
usually I'm doing something when ppl IM, so I read what they say, and then write lol so they know I read it
sometimes it backfires
like when a friend told me about her miscarriage
me: OMG. LOL

I'll take children over impending death any day

Remember that time when I asked for some turbulence in order to get the kids in my section to settle down? Oh, may I never be so scornful again. The next children on a plane I see will be angels to me. My last flight to Cali rendered me fearing for my life and wondering what bad thing I had recently done to deserve this. True, I had secretly chuckled when an annoying lady dropped her snow white ball of yarn on the subway and it rolled across the floor, but good heavens did that really deserve 6 solid hours of pressurized torture? I was pissed off at myself for not having deposited my expense reimbursement check before my flight because now it would surely burn up in the flames of the crash. I found myself wondering if my company would be cool enough and reissue the check for my parents – I’d hate for them to think I had perished with not a penny to my name. Yes, I have my priorities.

Basically, from the minute we finished our already rocky climb to the minute we touched almost bankrupt California soil, we had on and off turbulence every 20-30 minutes. Several points throughout the flight I looked at the map hoping we would be landing soon, only to find that we were still over Michigan. Curses! Each time the plane would rumble and tumble and shake, I was desperate for the pilot to get on the PA to make some sort of comforting announcement along the lines of “Folks, it’s going to be bumpy for probably the rest of this flight, but you’re not going to die. Because, I, am Captain Sully!” Instead, right after checking the map only to find we were just over Utah (damn, two more hours!!), we heard this.

Ding.

“Aaaah, folks? Well, we didn’t have enough gas to get to San Francisco, but we had enough to get to Salt Lake, so we’ll be landing in Salt Lake to refuel. We hope you’re ok with that decision, but we just thought it would be better than losing our place in line at JFK to refuel, and then waiting another hour for takeoff. We figured we should just go ahead and get outta Dodge. So, aaaaah, yeah. We hope you’re ok with that.”

Wait, what??

Obviously we made it, but that was easily one of the top 5 worst flights of my life. All I have to say is, for my flight home…bring on the kids!
